View Full Version : Brake Pad Recomendation 2005 Tribute
Well, the '05 Tribute is going to be needing new brakes all the way around soon. I was going to buy the OEM pads from one of the Vendors, but before I did I wanted to see if anyone here recommends them? Or any other pad?
The OEM's front and rear will run about $100, so before I spent it, I thought I would get some other opinions. What would you recommend for the wife's daily driver?

hmmm, since no one seems to have advice yet, i'll give my limited advice. before i got the miata, i always used pads from whatever auto parts was closest. i tried not to get the cheapest pads most of the time. after looking at miata.net, i'm going to look at some performance pads. with the regular auto parts pads, i've never really noticed a difference; however, i don't drive hard very often. i'm not sure what pads the OEMs use but i'm sure it's just a rebadged-overpriced pad. that said, $100 for a 4-wheel set isn't THAT bad and you really can't go too wrong with OEM. if you're just using it for daily driving, you're probably fine with most pads. some will wear faster or make more dust then others. if you're worried about performance, i've always figured that you should be able to make any pad lock up (and similarly threshold brake), you just might need to push harder. at that point, your tires are the limiting factor. beyond that you're looking at bite and fade, but for daily driving it should not be too much of a problem.

I've got Hawk HPS on my 04 Miata and also on the wife's Mazda6.
I put the cheapest thing I could find ($34 for full set) on the 91 Smurf.
You can't really push a Tribute the way you can a Miata or a 6 so I don't know that I would go with a performance pad too much. I'd think one of the upgraded pads (aka not the cheapest thing they have) at an auto parts store would be a good place to start.

For a normal, grocery-getter type car, I've found that generic replacement pads are just fine, a trip to the local auto parts store is all it takes.
For a bit more grip, it's hard to go wrong with Hawk, but I don't see you using a Tribute in any way that would require more than OEM-replacement generic pads- I doubt it'll see track or autocross duty, and its tow rating and off road capabilities aren't anything beyond the stock brake pads can't handle.
