What happened to the Miata Web Ring
It was up and running a few weeks ago, but now
it just displays a note that the site is no longer active

I posted this on the Miata.net forum and got nothing but grief:mad:

Saw the Miata.net post, don't know what to tell you besides the link that was posted that said it's no longer active.

I haven't the foggiest. Near as I can tell it was an old way for sites to link back and fourth to one another. I've only heard about it in abstract, and know that it is no more. ;)

I was a "web ring" or an association of similar sites. Most miata clubs and miata based forums were members of the ring.

You could go to the ring homepage and get a complete listing of all the sites in the ring.

The "web ring" concept has too many flaws to be useful. The Miata ring has been around for about 10 years. I don't know how popular it is, but with the holes in the concept, it was doomed.

E.g. - if one site is down, it breaks the ring. Anyone can join, so bogus sites end up there if they're not moderated. There's no differentiation between useful sites and "look here" sites. Overall - I think its worthless.
