Hi all.

I have been driving around town in my MX-5 for the past few weeks. My daily driver is usually a '04, 5DR, Orange Mazda 3 S. The car has 44K miles on it and it has been used sparingly over the same period of time.

I recently had the Air Bag come on. My wife drove the car to work which is about 10 miles each way. It did this for a couple of days.

Lastnight the light did not turn on and hasn't since. Weird.

Is this a result of not driving the car daily and the electronics used to having power running through them on a daily basis?

Theories welcome.

I would have it checked out - it may be that one of the sensors is marginal, or a bad ground connection.

No, there's a fault in the airbag system. The only reason a light comes on is because the controller detects a fault. If it's an intermittent fault, that can cause the light to go on and off. When I've seen airbag lights with that behavior it's usually a bad bag somewhere. The dealer will be able to read the code out of the airbag control module and replace the faulty bag.

If it's an '04, is it still under warranty? That's your best bet. I don't know any good way to diagnose a problem like that.
