View Full Version : Am I wasting my time here?

I responded to a request from the community by setting this up. If it isn't wanted, then fine. I'll shut it down now and stop wasting my time.
I need to see people here soon. If I don't, fine. I'll shut down the effort.

Gary,
I can't answer for anyone else and don't know if this is a waste of time.
I would caution against acting rashly to shut it down, however. The marginal cost of keeping it going for a bit has got to be relatively minor compared with the effort to get it going.
There is not a uniform opinion on the best way of the 93LE owners to move forward. This is one option popularly discussed.
On another note, we hope to get the VIN list from Mazda soon and then make it usable. That will be a huge development. From there, we hope to be able to make a more active and accurate registry.
Why shut it down just before 1000 new 93LE owners learn there is a group of us working together.
Have you made any outreach to the other LE, special edition, etc., groups? Yes, of course, the 93LE is the best one, but there are other numbered editions too. :)
Just my two cents...

I'll leave it up and we'll see how it goes.

Not yet. I wanted to fine tune the operation and presentation of the registry section first. Once we decide that its as good as we can make it, we'll delete the Test registry, replace it with a real one, and start opening it up to other groups.

There are varying opinions at this point on which way to go. Some opt for the simpler "if we don't have to reinvent the wheel" approach, which I think is logical.
Others have another path in mind of a sole website and forum away from constriction of what rules may be in place here.
Let it ride. I am hoping more LE owners decide to reach out and try the place.

I agree with Eric keep it simple at first, build on it from there so you can see over time what you really need or what people keep asking for. Rather than putting stuff in there that might just be wasting your time. Maybe we need to make a check list of things we want to see in the room and have every one check off what they would like to see.

Good idea.

For whatever reasons drive human nature, there are always people who want something "different" (whatever that means). I'd prefer an established forum, with the necessary safeguards against hacking in place, doesn't sell the member list to spammers, keeps the site up 99.9% of the time and moderates.
I'm sure some of us here witnessed the debacle that took place on the yahoo group a few days ago. That never happens here and if it even starts to head in that direction, it gets nipped in the bud. Although Gary is firm with his rules, he seldom bounces anybody permanently off the forum, just admonishes them were necessary and lets us all "place nice" together.
And frankly, if adding more members here increases some ad revenues for the entire resource, than so much the better. This entire operation has saved me a ton of money (which I've then spent with the sponsors but let's not go there), provided some of the best experts in the Miata community for free and created an atmosphere where all members feel welcome.
I think it would be a shame to let this go away but I'm only one voice and so we'll see what happens as time goes by.

The number of people who would be involved in reading the registries on a regular basis is so miniscule, any ad revenue it generated would be inconsequential. That's not why I'm doing it.
