I am thinking about adding an oil cooler and relocating my oil filter to the firewall. My question is, when you change the oil how do you get the old oil out of the cooler and oil lines. Do you have to disconnect lines and drain or blow them out or is there an easier way? Thanks

Tom, Ain't got an answer to your question, not that knowlegable. I went over to the forum to look for one, but didn't find one. Did see other threads / responses that identified the stock system is pretty good, and shouldn't need any mods unless you're driving the car pretty hard. You might want to check out the forum before you undertake the project. HTH

One other thing. We're both new, and I came across something that helped me that I'd like to share. To get a definition of all the abbrevbiations / acronyms you see here and at the forum, go to MX-5 Miata Forum FAQ (you'll see it on the screen you get when you initially go to the forum) and scroll down most of the way. You'll see the question / answer. HTH

Thanks Mick! I looked around a lot myself, couldn't find answer either. Just looking for an easier way to access filter and a little more oil capacity. Thanks also for the info on abreviations etc. That helps. ONE WEEK DOWN, 2 or three more till I get her back looking like NEW.

Whatever oil can flow downhill from the lines to the pan and be drained will. I wouldn't worry about the rest of it. If a lot of the super paranoid guys I see online knew how much oil was left in their engine every change anyway, I suspect we'd regularly see advice to draw a vacuum on the system, or partially/wholly disassemble the engine to chase out any old oil residue.

Bottom line is that a bit of old oil isn't the end of the world. If there's any question, send samples of your oil at your change interval out for analysis and find out whether you're going too long or if you could go longer.

Ricky, Thank you, I won't worry about a little old oil mixing with the new. Changing it every 3 or 4k its not the dirty commng out anyway.
