So, would it makes sense to have subforums for different generations of cars (ala miata.net)? For example, under the Rx-7, there could be SA/FB, FC, FD forums, and under the Mazda 3 forum, maybe '3', 'protege', '323', 'GLC'? -- although I'm guessing at this point the GLC might be good for the "vintage" forum.
All in all, this is a great idea. Any attempt to filter out the noise when it comes to car forums on the internet gets my support.

Yup, that might make sense in the long run. Should we set it up that way right out of the gate?

I don't think so. The consistent long term contributors just like to talk about cars. You need a certain amount of critical mass to make a board like this sucessful. While the numbers are low, lumping things together does this. After critical mass is reached, forums can be split as conflicts arise, just like what happened in the power forum of miata.net.
The biggest danger to this (or any site) is that somebody will check their favorite sub forum for a week, and find that nothing new has been posted, then just giv up. Even irrelevant posts give people hope, because there's new information there.

Yup - good point. We need to gain some traction first.
