I have had two RX-7s - an 85 GSL and a 90 convertible. I hated the 2nd generation overall but loved the first generation 7s. I wouldn't mind finding a nice FB myself.

most folks love the FD - especially the turbo version - but I have never even sat in one so I can't give you much insight on it.

I love them all. FDs are in high demand, so it may be easier to find an FB or FC. Taller guys will have a lot of trouble in the FB, from what I remember driving them, my buddy had to install a racing seat just to drive comfortably.

If I were buying one, I'd look for an inexpensive FD to restore. Low mileage examples are expensive, but the motor can be rebuilt in an afternoon, and rebuild kits aren't that expensive, so the heck with it.

Here's a good article on the FD: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=7&article_id=2940

I am 6'1" and never had any problem with sitting in my 85. I did however feel a little cramped in my 90 convertible

Now I need to remember the year of my buddy's car... it was earlier than '85, I want to say '83. Maybe I just didn't play with the seat adjustment enough?

I also felt that I had far more room in my '83 as compared to my miata. When I test drove another '83 a couple months ago, I remembered how much roomier those cars are. I'm 5'11 with a tall torso -- headroom is many times a factor for me.
