I took my CX-7 to a quicky oil change place, when they were putting oil? filter back on,they overdid it and broke the o-ring.Then,i guess oil, splashes out onto the hot engine, thus filling the cabin with smoke and a fuel smell. I take it back, they fix the o-ring and clean the engine as best they can.The smell goes away, but there is still a faint trace of it. It's strong on start-up and then it's barely noticable. I can't smell it on start-up if the vents are off. It doesn't really smell on the outside when i start it up,is the smelll stuck in my vents??? What can i do? Change the cabin air-filter thing??
Will the smell go away after awhile?? It's been a week, how long should i give it?

I spilled some oil in an engine compartment once, resulting in roughly the same symptoms. It took a while to burn it all off, but after enough time at operating temperature, it all burned off and all was well. You likely can't smell it at startup because you don't have enough heat being generated to get it burning. Short trips don't do much.

Any luck burning off the oil? How many miles have you driven, it's been a week, I hope all is well!

Yeah, I hope week of regular driving cured it -- if not, perhaps there is still a leak/problem somewhere.
The Project 323 finally stopped smelling burny after a week of regular driving...and being a junk yard transplant, I have no idea what was all over the engine -- probably *everything* ;).

Sorry,i've been busy, but after a couple of weeks,i do believe the smell is gone. It's mostly my wife's car so i'm not in it that much, but i drove it the other day and didn't smell anything.........whew,i'm so glad. I'm taking it to the Mazda place for future oil changes from now on. Thanks for the replies.
